We all want to do our bit to save the planet and are much more conscious as to how our decisions can affect the environment these days as climate change is a much bigger issue than ever before. Here, we have listed some small things you can do to do your bit!
Be Careful What you Digest
We owe it to ourselves to be educated in what we consume. Many people of course always think of eating meat, or fish – or even indulging in alcohol, but really we should be looking at the ingredients in everything we consume. You will be surprised as to what some of the things you eat contain. For example, did you know that chewing gum contains plastic? Most people don’t! Learn more on this blog.
Carpool, or Avoid Driving Where Possible
There is no doubt that driving adds to your carbon footprint, that’s why we should avoid it when we can. If something is within walking distance, then that should always be the preferred option. Alternatively, if you have good transport links – then consider taking public transport. There is also an increasing amount of cycle routes popping up to encourage people to cycle to their destination. Get yourself a good bike and cycle!
Use Long-Lasting Light Bulbs
Usually when our lights go out, we just go to the local store and buy whatever light bulb fits. However, there is a lot more to it than that. If you possibly can, you should always opt for the energy saving light bulbs. These will last much longer than the regular ones. It might not seem that much, however remember you have to light your entire home. All of this adds up.
Conserve Water when Possible
Conserving water when you can is another important piece of the puzzle. There are lots of ways you can do this that you may not have thought of before. Silly things like taking shorter showers can make all the difference. You can also turn off the water when brushing your teeth or shaving to save on water. There are also shower heads that are manufactured to save on water which is a good investment. Doing basic maintenance like checking for leaks in pipes can also be incredibly beneficial.
Enjoy a Bath
This is definitely one of our favourites. Instead of using lots of water when we have showers every day, why not take a bath. This will save a huge amount of water, and also be much more relaxing for you. Make it into a treat for yourself. Light some candles, put on some of your favourite music, and enjoy. Baths instead of showers can be a great way to conserve water.
Protecting the environment is something that is on all of our agendas, but it can be difficult to know where or how to start. Hopefully these tips and ideas will help you on your way to being much more environmentally friendly.
